It took a lot for me to remove my Lensbaby Soft Focus II from my camera and replace it with the Sol 45, but I learned I love the Sol 45 because of it! The sweet spot of focus is much sharper and the surrounding blur is a dream. The Sol 45 has a fixed aperture of f/3.5. I tend to favor shooting wide open down to f/2.8, so this is a change for me. It’s not always easy to nail focus with Lensbaby lenses, and especially with self-portraits, but when I zoomed in on my computer screen I was pleasantly surprised with how clear that sweet spot of focus was. For anyone just starting out with Lensbaby lenses, this would be a fantastic lens to begin with. You’re able to tilt it like their Composer Pro II and shift your sweet spot of focus around the frame, but for these self-portraits, I had the focus locked in the center.
